Situated on the south side of Islay and surrounded by rolling hills, the house is in a quiet, rural location 2.5 miles from Port Ellen village. The Distilleries Pathway provides a safe route for walkers and cyclists between Ardbeg and Port Ellen. This is the perfect base to explore Islay's world famous whisky distilleries, the beautiful beaches, heritage, wildlife and much more.
The path which was completed in 2015 runs from Port Ellen village to Ardbeg Distillery covering a distance of 3.5 miles. From the starting point in Port Ellen the path winds its way along the shore affording a stunning outlook to wards the Mull of Kintyre and the Antrim Coast of Northern Ireland.
You then venture inland through the forest surrounding Laphroaig and on towards Lagavulin. The path then slowly winds its way towards Ardbeg providing more views of the Mull of Kintyre with the hills of Arran behind.
In Port Ellen village there are small grocery shops, a Post Office and gift shop, a pub, a small number of resturants and a petrol station.
Bowmore, the largest town on the island is 13 miles away. Here you will find a wider selection of places to eat, Tourist Information, petrols station, shops, pharmacy, banks and ATM's.
